A Study of Older Adults' Mental Health across 33 Countries during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Carmen M. Tyler et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of personal characteristics and the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of older adults aged 60 and older from 33 countries. Findings show that being separated from and having conflicts with loved ones, as well as residing in a country with higher income, can impact anxiety and depression in older adults. Adjusting to working from home, younger age, and receiving medical treatment for severe COVID-19 symptoms are also factors associated with depression and anxiety. Older adults from Europe and Central Asia reported higher depression levels compared to those from other regions, while their anxiety levels were higher than those from Latin America and the Caribbean.
