Avoiding health technology assessment: a global survey of reasons for not using health technology assessment in decision making

Yot Teerawattananon et al.

Summary: The survey revealed that the top reasons for not using HTA include lack of data, technical skills, perceived technocratic nature, absence of decision rules, and the belief that HTA commodifies life. These reasons can be categorized into misconceptions about HTA, feasibility issues, and values, attitudes, and politics. It has been shown that addressing these reasons can lead to more effective use of HTA in decision-making processes, even if the analyses are not perfect.
