Labor Market Concentration

Jose Azar et al.

Summary: A labor market is considered concentrated when a few firms dominate hiring, similar to a concentrated product market. Analysis of data from CareerBuilder.com shows that the majority of labor markets in the United States are highly concentrated. The study also finds that higher concentration leads to a decrease in posted wages, indicating an increase in labor market power.

RANDOMIZING RELIGION: THE IMPACT OF PROTESTANT EVANGELISM ON ECONOMIC OUTCOMES

Gharad Bryan et al.

Summary: The study found that an evangelical Protestant Christian education program had a causal impact on enhancing religiosity and income of ultrapoor Filipino households. However, there were no significant differences in total labor supply, consumption, food security, or life satisfaction. Thirty months after the program, the differences in religiosity intensity disappeared, but treated households were more likely to be Protestant and showed some evidence of increased consumption and perceived relative economic status.
