The Perception of the Muller-Lyer Visual Illusion in Schizophrenics and Non-human Primates: A Translational Approach

Ana Luisa Lamounier Costa et al.

Summary: The Muller-Lyer Illusion task showed consistent results across monkeys and humans, with schizophrenic patients demonstrating higher susceptibility to the illusion. However, repeated ketamine administrations did not improve monkey performance, indicating potential limitations of the MLI task as a translational model for schizophrenia.

The temporal sensitivity to the tactile-induced double flash illusion mediates the impact of beta oscillations on schizotypal personality traits

Francesca Fotia et al.

Summary: The study found that individuals with higher schizotypal traits have wider temporal window of illusion and slower beta waves when it comes to tactile-to-visual temporal sensitivity. The reduced tactile-to-visual temporal sensitivity may mediate the effect of slowed oscillatory beta activity on schizotypal personality traits. This suggests that slowed oscillatory patterns could be an early marker for psychosis proneness.

Elucidating the Impact of Childhood, Adulthood, and Cumulative Lifetime Trauma Exposure on Psychiatric Symptoms in Early Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders

Jianlin Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that trauma in adulthood is associated with male gender, older age, non-Chinese ethnicity, and psychiatric comorbidities; while trauma in childhood is associated with a family history of depression/anxiety. Trauma exposure in childhood and adulthood is significantly associated with more severe depressive and anxiety symptoms.
