Influence of growth and urbanization on CO2 emissions: The moderating effect of foreign direct investment on energy use in BRICS

Daniel Balsalobre-Lorente et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the relationship between foreign direct investment, economic growth, urbanization, energy use, and carbon emissions in BRICS countries between 1990 and 2014. The results confirm both the environmental Kuznets curve and pollution haven hypotheses, highlighting the moderating effects of foreign direct investment and energy usage on carbon emissions. The study suggests promoting renewable sources and boosting clean foreign industries in host countries.

Energy transition and environmental quality prospects in leading emerging economies: The role of environmental-related technological innovation

Stephen Taiwo Onifade et al.

Summary: The commitment of emerging countries in clean energy development and carbon-neutral goals is crucial. This study examines the role of environmental-related technological innovations (ERT) in achieving climate neutrality in the E7 countries and finds that increasing ERT can significantly reduce carbon emissions. However, these countries still need to make more efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources.

Influence of tourism, governance, and foreign direct investment on energy consumption and CO2emissions: a panel analysis of Muslim countries

Faqeer Muhammad et al.

Summary: The study quantified the empirical linkages between tourism, governance, and FDI on CO2 emission and energy use in 13 Muslim countries from 2002 to 2014. Results showed that tourism has a positive impact on CO2 emissions, while governance has a negative impact. In terms of energy use, tourism had a negative relationship while governance indicated a positive relationship. The study also identified the pollution haven phenomenon and two-way causalities between tourism and CO2, as well as a one-way causality from governance to CO2.

Low-carbon energy, sustainable development, and justice: Towards a just energy transition for the society and the environment

Giuseppina Siciliano et al.

Summary: This paper explores the conceptual linkage between sustainable development, low-carbon energy transitions, and energy justice, with a focus on addressing people's competing priorities associated with low-carbon energy interventions. Using a renewable energy project in Vietnam as a case study, it demonstrates that linking social priorities to energy justice can contribute to a better understanding of the multidimensional and complex aspects of low-carbon energy transitions for energy policy makers to make socially just decisions.
