Perceived Financial Barriers to Cervical Cancer Screening and Associated Cost Burden Among Low-Income, Under-Screened Women

Caitlin B. Biddell et al.

Summary: A study conducted in North Carolina, U.S., found that a majority of low-income, uninsured, or publicly insured women perceived substantial financial barriers to cervical cancer screening, particularly related to screening appointment costs and potential follow-up/future treatment costs. Strategies such as providing greater cost transparency and access to financial assistance may help reduce these perceived barriers and increase screening uptake in this underserved population.
