Moving to Opportunity, or Aging in Place? The Changing Profile of Low Income and Subsidized Households and Where They Live

Vincent J. Reina et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the changing profile of subsidized households and its relation to existing measures of neighborhood opportunity. The study finds that the proportion of subsidized households headed by seniors has increased while those with children have declined. Households using vouchers used to be younger compared to the general population and other housing subsidy programs but have aged quickly. The current neighborhood amenity measures do not reflect these changes.
