An anticrime information support system design: Application of K-means-VMD-BiGRU in the city of Chicago

Qing Zhu et al.

Summary: The rise in urban crime rates is a pressing issue for public security, affecting various aspects of social sustainability. Developing a predictive model to identify high-crime areas and forecast crime trends is crucial for resource allocation and investment in crime prevention. This study proposes a model using K-means clustering, signal decomposition, and neural networks to accurately identify crime distribution and predict crime variation. By combining temporal and spatial effects, an anticrime information support system is designed to assist police in implementing targeted crime prevention strategies.

Assessing individual activity-related exposures to traffic congestion using GPS trajectory data

Zihan Kan et al.

Summary: This study examines individual exposures to traffic congestion during various types of trips using taxi GPS trajectory and POI datasets in Wuhan, China. The findings indicate that individual exposures to traffic congestion are more related to the space-time rhythm of traffic flows rather than the types of trips or activities conducted.

Spatial-temporal traffic congestion identification and correlation extraction using floating car data

Yanyan Chen et al.

Summary: The research proposes a new speed performance index (SPI) to evaluate traffic status and categorize it into five levels based on SPI values. By applying this index to a case study on urban freeways using Floating Car Data (FCD) analysis, the research uncovers a clear understanding of traffic status and congestion patterns. Further research can focus on travel speed prediction, travel time estimation, prediction, and reliability analysis at both road segment and network levels with more comprehensive FCD from larger spatial and temporal domains.

Multi-sectoral determinants of carbon emission inequality in Chinese clustering cities

Shulei Cheng et al.

Summary: The study used hierarchical cluster analysis and a decomposition approach to explore multi-sectoral determinants of carbon emission inequality in 285 prefecture-level cities in China. It was found that the emission disparity in the industrial consumption sector is the main source of emission inequalities in clustering city groups, and the emission inequality of each city group decreased in the reporting period, mainly due to changes in emissions per capita. The impact of population mobility on emission inequality was not detected.

Spatial-temporal differences in operational performance of urban trunk roads based on TPI data: The case of Qingdao

Qiuxia Sun et al.

Summary: This study classifies and analyzes the traffic performance characteristics of urban trunk roads to assist travelers in avoiding peak hours and congested routes, as well as to help traffic managers develop refined management strategies. The research reveals that trunk roads generally have good conditions, with weekends showing better traffic conditions overall compared to weekdays. Significant differences exist in the change trajectory of TPI data and spatial distribution among different types of trunk roads.

Urban carrying capacity assessment framework for mega mall development. A case study of Tehran's 22 municipal districts*

Saeed Esfandi et al.

Summary: This study presents research results on the evaluation of Tehran's 22 municipal districts' carrying capacity for mega malls, using a combination of objective and subjective methods. The study developed an Urban Carrying Capacity Assessment Framework (UCCAF) to determine the final weights of various criteria and indices. The districts were classified into six clusters based on their carrying capacity rankings. The proposed framework provides urban planners with a dynamic decision support system.
