The Impact of Electronic Medical Records on the Process of Care: Alignment with Complexity and Clinical Focus

Xin (David) Ding et al.

Summary: This study examines the impacts of electronic medical records (EMR) on hospital performance. Economies of Scale and Scope in Hospitals: An Empirical Study of Volume Spillovers

Michael Freeman et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of volume changes on the costs of different services in general hospitals. It found that increased elective surgery volume is associated with higher costs of emergency care, but increased emergency activities in one specialty can lead to lower costs of emergency care in other specialties. There were no spillover effects across specialties for elective admissions.
