Molecular Mechanisms of Metal Toxicity in the Pathogenesis of Alzheimer's Disease

Md. Tanvir Kabir et al.

Summary: Research indicates that neurodegenerative diseases like AD are associated with biometal imbalance and toxic metal accumulation, leading to neurotoxic activities and cell death. Aberrant expression of endogenous proteins related to metal transport is linked to AD pathogenesis.

Citrus Polyphenols in Brain Health and Disease: Current Perspectives

Matthew G. Pontifex et al.

Summary: Citrus fruits are a rich source of non-essential bioactive compounds, particularly flavanones, which have been shown to have neuroprotective potential. Both preclinical and human studies support the benefits of citrus fruits in improving cognitive performance and reducing disease risk, highlighting the need for further exploration of citrus polyphenols for therapeutic efficacy.

Cameroonian Spice Extracts Modulate Molecular Mechanisms Relevant to Cardiometabolic Diseases in SW 872 Human Liposarcoma Cells

Achille Parfait Atchan Nwakiban et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of 11 Cameroonian medicinal spice extracts on triglyceride accumulation, glucose uptake, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and interleukin secretion in human adipocytes. The results show that these spice extracts have significant effects on reducing triglyceride content, increasing glucose uptake, reducing ROS production, and modulating cytokine secretion related to cardiometabolic diseases.

A Leaf Extract of Harrisonia abyssinica Ameliorates Neurobehavioral, Histological and Biochemical Changes in the Hippocampus of Rats with Aluminum Chloride-Induced Alzheimer's Disease

Hend Mohamed Anwar et al.

Summary: Aluminum is a widespread mineral in the environment, with potentially toxic effects on the brain. Research showed that a leaf extract from Harrisonia abyssinica could protect against Al-induced neurotoxicity, possibly due to its high phenolic and flavonoid content. High dose of the extract had a comparable effect to the reference drug rivastigmine in restoring normal levels of various brain parameters affected by Al toxicity.
