Interaural Place-of-Stimulation Mismatch Estimates Using CT Scans and Binaural Perception, But Not Pitch, Are Consistent in Cochlear-Implant Users

Joshua G. W. Bernstein et al.

Summary: The study investigates whether plasticity-reorganization of central neural pathways can compensate for peripheral interaural place mismatch in individuals with bilateral cochlear implants and single-sided deafness. While binaural processing did not show adaptation to mismatch, there was evidence of adaptation in pitch perception towards specific electrode frequencies. Results suggest that reducing interaural place mismatch and potentially improving binaural processing by reprogramming the cochlear implant frequency allocation would be better done using CT scan than pitch information.

Effect of the Target and Conflicting Frequency and Time Ranges on Consonant Enhancement in Normal-Hearing Listeners

Yang-Soo Yoon

Summary: The study focused on enhancing consonant recognition by intensifying target frequency and time ranges, while removing conflicting frequency and time ranges. Results showed significant improvement in consonant recognition with intensified target ranges, but deterioration with the removal of conflicting ranges. Enhancing target ranges was found to be an efficient way to improve consonant recognition.
