Using the Flipped Classroom to Promote Learner Engagement for the Sustainable Development of Language Skills: A Mixed-Methods Study

Zhiyong Li et al.

Summary: The flipped classroom has been widely researched in second language education as a teaching approach to improve academic performance and engagement. However, there is limited empirical evidence on whether it can significantly improve learners' engagement in the EFL class. This study evaluated the impact of a flipped College English Listening and Speaking class on learner engagement in a mainland China context. The findings demonstrate that after eight weeks of flipped instruction, students in the flipped class showed higher engagement scores in behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and social aspects.
