Downside risk, financial conditions and systemic risk in China

Summary: Using quantile regression and Bayesian-VAR model, the study shows that deteriorating financial conditions and high systemic risk strengthen future downside risk when current GDP growth is relatively low in China. Financial conditions indexes (FCIs) are constructed, revealing a significant difference in forecasting abilities between financial conditions and systemic risk to future GDP growth. The early warning functions of systemic risks outperform those of financial conditions.
