Stability of phase boundary between L12-Ni3Al phases: A phase field study

Yuhong Zhao

Summary: The evolution and stability of phase boundaries between L12-Ni3Al phases in Ni75Al11V14 alloy were studied using the microscopic equation phase-field method. Various types of phase boundaries were identified through atomic configuration, migration, and occupation probability. The impact of elastic strain energy and thermodynamic energy on the evolution and stability of phase boundaries was investigated. It was found that the calculations and predictions were consistent, and the essence of the transition and stability of phase boundaries was revealed. This research provides an effective method for studying the formation and design of high stability phase boundaries.

Role of interfacial energy anisotropy in dendrite orientation in Al-Zn alloys: A phase field study

Yuhong Zhao et al.

Summary: The influence of interfacial energy anisotropy on dendrite morphology was investigated in Al-Zn alloys using the phase-field method. Different types of dendrite morphology were observed, and the occurrence of solute segregation holes and liquid grooves in dendrites was found to be influenced by the anisotropic interfacial energy. Supersaturation was found to be strongly correlated with the formation of liquid holes and liquid grooves as well as the degree of solute segregation. The relationship between interfacial energy anisotropy, Zn concentration, elastic anisotropy, and dendrite orientation deserves attention.

Core-shell structure nanoprecipitates in Fe-xCu-3.0Mn-1.5Ni-1.5Al alloys: A phase field study

Yuhong Zhao et al.

Summary: The core-shell structure precipitates of Fe-xCu-3.0Mn-1.5Ni-1.5Al alloys under internal and external strain were investigated. Results showed the existence of four core-shell structures in precipitation, and the interaction between external strain and Mn, Ni, and Al promoted the joining and merging of adjacent core-shell particles.

The Response Mechanism of Crystal Orientation to Grain Boundary Dislocation under Uniaxial Strain: A Phase-Field-Crystal Study

Xiaona Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructure evolution of dislocations with different misorientation angles using the phase field crystal method. The evolution process of grain boundaries under external stress, as well as the energy curve and stress-strain curve, are analyzed. The relationship between misorientation angle and dislocation emission frequency is discussed. Three types of dislocation reactions, namely type I semi-annihilation, type II semi-annihilation, and full annihilation, are analyzed in detail for misorientation angles of 6 degrees and 10 degrees. It is found that the dislocation reaction and motion ability are stronger at 10 degrees compared to 6 degrees.

High-throughput computing for hydrogen transport properties in ε-ZrH2

Hua Hou et al.

Summary: In this study, the mechanism behind the effect of hydrogen atom transport properties on the precipitation process of ε-ZrH2 phase in zirconium-based composites was explored using density functional theory calculations. The diffusion model of hydrogen in the body-centered tetragonal structure of ε-ZrH2 was established, and the high-throughput calculation results showed that the diffusion coefficient is greatly affected by high temperatures. Various solute elements and pressure were found to have either increasing or decreasing effects on the diffusion coefficient, which were closely related to atomic radius.

Cooperative effect of strength and ductility processed by thermomechanical treatment for Cu-Al-Ni alloy

Xiaolin Tian et al.

Summary: This work investigates the strength-ductility cooperative effect of Cu-Al-Ni alloys through thermomechanical treatment. The results show that high strain rate induces the introduction of dislocations and twin structures, and high strength can be achieved at a slightly lower temperature than the elongation peak. The optimization of strength-ductility mainly involves twining/grain boundaries optimization and second-phases optimization, which contribute together without conflict. The interaction between twins and dislocations is dynamically displayed using a phase-field-crystal method. The typical characteristics of high strength-ductility copper alloys include small grain size, high twin density, and stable grain boundary.

Ultrahigh specific strength in a magnesium alloy strengthened by spinodal decomposition

Tongzheng Xin et al.

Summary: Magnesium alloys can be strengthened through various methods such as dislocation accumulation, grain refinement, deformation twinning, and spinodal decomposition. The spinodal strengthened ultralightweight Mg alloy in this study achieves specific yield strengths surpassing almost every other engineering alloy, with lattice mismatch at the diffuse transition region between spinodal zones and matrix being the dominating factor for enhancing yield strength.
