Anchoring Group-Mediated Radiolabeling of Inorganic Nanoparticles-A Universal Method for Constructing Nuclear Medicine Imaging Nanoprobes

Jianxian Ge et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the universality of a simple and efficient radiolabeling method, LAGMERAL, for constructing radioactive nanoprobes. The method utilizes a diphosphonate-polyethylene glycol (DP-PEG) group on the surface of inorganic nanoparticles for efficient radiolabeling. The resulting nanoprobes exhibit high radiolabeling stability and biocompatibility, making them promising for sensitive tumor diagnosis. This research highlights the importance and potential of LAGMERAL in nuclear medicine imaging.

Radiolabeled Gold Nanoseeds Decorated with Substance P Peptides: Synthesis, Characterization and In Vitro Evaluation in Glioblastoma Cellular Models

Francisco Silva et al.

Summary: Despite the poor overall survival of glioblastoma patients, innovative therapy strategies based on nanomedicine approaches, particularly using nanoparticles with a small gold core carrying chelators and peptides, show promise. These nanoparticles were characterized by various analytical techniques and demonstrated high stability and low interaction with plasma proteins. The presence of substance P peptides in these nanoparticles significantly enhanced their internalization by tumor cells, leading to more pronounced radiobiological effects and improved tumor treatment.

Radioarsenic: A promising theragnostic candidate for nuclear medicine

Vanessa A. Sanders et al.

Summary: Molecular imaging is a non-invasive process that enables visualization, characterization, and quantification of biological processes at the molecular and cellular level. With the emergence of theragnostic agents for personalized medicine, there is a growing need for matched pairs of isotopes to provide patient-specific information. Arsenic isotopes offer emissions suitable for diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy, with longer half-lives allowing for improved patient pharmacokinetics when paired with peptides and antibodies that have longer uptake times.

Summary: Radiolabeling plays a significant role in functionalizing inorganic nanoparticles, providing high-sensitive imaging capacities and accurate pharmacokinetic information. A novel LAGMERAL method utilizing a PEG ligand with DP terminal group allows for radiolabeling NPs through spare coordination sites. X-ray absorption spectroscopy studies investigated the coordination states of foreign metal ions on the particle surface. The stability of radioactively labeled Fe3O4 NPs prepared by colabeling with I-125 and Tc-99m was compared both in vitro and in vivo, highlighting the advantages of the LAGMERAL method for creating advanced NPs with various functionalities.
