Machinability of Different Wood-Plastic Composites during Peripheral Milling

Zhaolong Zhu et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to improve the machinability of wood-plastic composites by investigating the effects of different wood-plastic composites on machinability. The effects of milling with cemented carbide cutters were examined, and cutting forces, cutting temperature, surface quality, chip formation, and tool wear were evaluated. Optimal milling conditions were determined, and different wear patterns and chip formations were observed during the machining process of different wood-plastic composites.

Machinability of wood fiber/polyethylene composite during orthogonal cutting

Xiaolei Guo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the machinability of wood fiber/polyethylene composite material and found that the cutting depth affects the cutting efficiency and surface quality. Shallow cutting depth results in continuous cutting governed by a continuous shearing process, while deep cutting depth leads to discontinuous cutting governed by plastic fracture.

Investigation of the Wear Behavior of PVD Coated Carbide Tools during Ti6Al4V Machining with Intensive Built Up Edge Formation

M. S. I. Chowdhury et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of AlTiN and CrN PVD coatings on tool wear during the machining of a Ti6Al4V alloy with severe BUE formation. It demonstrates that CrN coating possesses unique micromechanical properties and tribological adaptive characteristics, minimizing BUE formation and significantly improving tool performance.

Effects of laser parameters on the width of color change area of poplar wood surface during a single irradiation

Rongrong Li et al.

Summary: The laser surface treatment method is efficient for modifying wood properties like color, wettability, and surface roughness. By experimenting, it was found that laser power and focus plane position significantly influence the width of color change area (WCCA). A quadratic model was established to accurately predict WCCA under different laser parameter combinations.

Evaluation and Modeling of Processability of Laser Removal Technique for Bamboo Outer Layer

Rongrong Li et al.

Summary: CO2 laser removal technique was used for bamboo outer layer removal, with laser power having the most significant impact on removal depth and surface morphology. Feed speed and sweep width had opposite effects compared to laser power on the assessed parameters.

Influence of Tool Wear on Form Deviations in Dry Machining of UNS A97075 Alloy

Francisco Javier Trujillo Vilches et al.

Summary: Geometrical tolerances play a crucial role in the functionality and assembly of parts made of light alloys for aeronautical applications, which are often machined in dry conditions where tool wear becomes a significant factor affecting geometrical tolerances. In this study, the impact of tool wear on roundness, straightness, and cylindricity of dry-turned UNS A97075 alloy was analyzed, with indirect adhesion wear being identified as the main tool-wear mechanism influenced by feed. The findings highlight a relationship between cutting parameters, cutting time, tool wear, and form deviations, particularly emphasizing the influence of high feed and low cutting speed values on tool wear.
