Microbial degradation of Procion Red by Pseudomonas stutzeri

Sweta Parimita Bera et al.

Summary: The study investigated the degradation of textile azo dye Procion Red-H3B by Pseudomonas stutzeri SPM-1 isolated from textile wastewater dumping sites in Surat, Gujarat. The optimized conditions led to rapid and efficient decolorization of the dye, along with significant reductions in COD, BOD, and TOC levels in the effluent. The strain exhibited high activities of azoreductase, laccase, and NADH-DCIP reductase, indicating evidence for reductive cleavage of the dye.
