Antimalarial application of quinones: A recent update

Om P. S. Patel et al.

Summary: Atovaquone belongs to a class of drugs known as naphthoquinones and is used in combination with proguanil to treat acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. Various quinone-derived compounds have been studied for their antimalarial properties, with a recent focus on the discovery of novel quinone-based compounds between 2009 and 2020. The compilation of these discoveries is expected to contribute to the development of effective and safe treatments against malaria.

Complementary Reactivity in Selective Radical Processes: Electrochemistry of Oxadiazolines to Quinazolinones

Ho Seong Hwang et al.

Summary: Electrochemistry is an emerging sustainable method for efficiently producing radical intermediates using eco-friendly electric energy. A new electrochemical process was developed to transform 1,2,4-oxadiazolines into quinazolinone derivatives under mild conditions. The electrochemical N-O bond cleavage at controlled oxidation potential led to selective synthesis of these derivatives, revealing complementary reactivities in radical processes that could not be achieved through photocatalysis.
