Diagnostic performance of serum interleukin-6 in pediatric acute appendicitis: a systematic review

Javier Arredondo Montero et al.

Summary: This study examined the diagnostic performance of serum interleukin-6 in pediatric acute appendicitis and found that it has limited diagnostic value when used as a single marker. Serum interleukin-6 has moderate sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing non-complicated acute appendicitis in children, but increased sensitivity and specificity in complicated appendicitis. There is a direct relationship between serum level of interleukin-6 and the hours of evolution of abdominal pain in children with acute appendicitis. Further research is needed to explore the potential of interleukin-6 in classifying complicated and uncomplicated appendicitis, especially in the context of non-operative management.

The diagnostic value of interleukin 6 as a biomarker for gastric cancer A meta-analysis and systematic review

Xiaozi Wang et al.

Summary: Interleukin 6 expression is higher in gastric cancer patients compared to normal controls, showing good sensitivity and specificity for gastric cancer diagnosis. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed to confirm the diagnostic value of interleukin 6 in gastric cancer.

Interleukin-6 signalling as a valuable cornerstone for molecular medicine (Review)

Maria Trovato et al.

Summary: Interleukin-6 (IL-6) has been studied for nearly 40 years for its biological capabilities, primarily in inflammatory and cognitive processes. It interacts with the IL-6 receptor complex and plays a crucial role in signal transduction. Abnormal production of IL-6 has been associated with diseases such as autoimmune thyroid disorders and SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Elevated Interleukin-6 Levels in the Circulation and Peritoneal Fluid of Patients with Ovarian Cancer as a Potential Diagnostic Biomarker: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Hina Amer et al.

Summary: The study revealed that IL6 levels in the blood were significantly higher in ovarian cancer patients than in healthy controls, but not significantly higher than those with benign ovarian growths. The levels of IL6 in ascites were also significantly elevated in both late-stage and early-stage OC. Ascitic IL6 showed higher sensitivity in early detection of OC.
