Glycemic Variability Is Independently Associated With Poor Prognosis in Five Pediatric ICU Centers in Southwest China

Milan Dong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal index of glucose variability (GV) in non-diabetic critically ill children and to confirm its potential association with unfavorable outcomes. The results showed that GV was strongly associated with poor prognosis independent of mean glucose level and had greater predictive power compared to hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.

Association of Triglyceride-Glucose Index with Bone Mineral Density in Non-diabetic Koreans: KNHANES 2008-2011

Jee Hee Yoon et al.

Summary: The study found that insulin resistance assessed using the TyG index was inversely associated with femoral neck BMD in non-diabetic men aged 50 years and postmenopausal women. The negative impact of insulin resistance on femoral neck BMD was more pronounced in women with a BMI < 23 kg/m², indicating a differential effect of insulin resistance on BMD according to skeletal site, sex, and BMI.

Time in Range in Relation to All-Cause and Cardiovascular Mortality in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: A Prospective Cohort Study

Summary: The study found that lower TIR was associated with increased risk of all-cause and CVD mortality among patients with type 2 diabetes. This suggests the validity of TIR as a surrogate marker for long-term adverse clinical outcomes.

The endocrinology of sarcopenia and frailty

Vicky Kamwa et al.

Summary: Sarcopenia describes low muscle mass and strength associated with aging while reduced physical performance indicates the severity of the condition. Frailty is a syndrome of increased vulnerability following a stressor. The implications of hypothalamic pituitary dysregulation in the pathogenesis of both entities have been described by researchers.
