Super-resolution imaging illuminates new dynamic behaviors of cellulose synthase

Sydney G. Duncombe et al.

Summary: Confocal imaging has limitations in exploring the dynamic behaviors of CESA particles, but Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM) provides a two-fold improvement in resolution and reveals new insights into the dense arrangement of cellulose. SIM data show coordinated control of CESA catalytic activity, variability in CESA track patterns, and highlight SIM as a powerful tool for advancing CESA imaging beyond conventional light microscopy.

LeafNet: a tool for segmenting and quantifying stomata and pavement cells

Shaopeng Li et al.

Summary: Stomata play crucial roles in gas and water exchange in leaves, but manually collecting accurate quantitative data from the leaf surface can be laborious and time-consuming. To address this issue, we have developed LeafNet, a tool that automates the localization of stomata, segmentation of pavement cells, and reporting of morphological parameters. LeafNet improves the efficiency and productivity of leaf phenotyping for plant biologists.

Ride to cell wall: Arabidopsis XTH11, XTH29 and XTH33 exhibit different secretion pathways and responses to heat and drought stress

Monica De Caroli et al.

Summary: The study compares the secretion patterns of three members of the Arabidopsis thaliana XTH family and reveals that XTH11 and XTH33 use a conventional protein secretion pathway to reach the cell wall and plasma membrane, while XTH29 follows an unconventional protein secretion pathway towards the apoplast. The presence of a 45-amino acid extraterminal region is crucial for the correct cell wall targeting of XTH29. Furthermore, XTH29 is significantly upregulated under drought and heat stress compared to XTH11 and XTH33, indicating different involvement of these XTHs in cell wall remodeling under abiotic stress.

Genome-wide identification of candidate aquaporins involved in water accumulation of pomegranate outer seed coat

Jianjian Liu et al.

Summary: Aquaporins (AQPs) are highly conserved membrane proteins facilitating water transport in pomegranate. PgrAQPs play a role in water accumulation in the outer seed coat, with PgrPIP genes potentially having a significant impact. These findings offer insights for genetic improvement of the seed coat.

Genome-wide identification of Cellulose-like synthase D gene family in Dendrobium catenatum

Hangxian Xi et al.

Summary: Dendrobium catenatum, a top traditional Chinese medicinal plant, contains CslD genes which play key roles in hemicellulose biosynthesis and plant development. The identified DcCslD genes showed different expression patterns in response to environmental stresses, suggesting their potential importance in regulating stress responses in D. catenatum.
