Summary: This review highlights the significance of using porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) in metal batteries to enhance battery performance. The mechanisms of MOFs in improving Li-ion movement, stabilizing solid/solid interfacial contact, and preventing Li dendrite formation are briefly summarized. Furthermore, various factors affecting battery performance, such as MOF structures, unsaturated metal sites, incorporation with ionic liquids, different organic ligands, pore size, and nano/micro hierarchical structure, are comprehensively discussed. Finally, the potential applications of MOF-based SSEs in other metal batteries, such as Na, Zn, and Mg batteries, are also illustrated.
