Emergence of low-energy electronic states in oxygen-controlled Mott insulator Ca2RuO4+δ

Takeo Miyashita et al.

Summary: The insulator-to-metal transition in Ca2RuO4 involves the closure of the Mott insulating gap by eV-scale spectral-weight transfer with excess oxygen. The observed Fermi surface exhibits distinct alpha and beta sheets, with selective transitions in d(xz) and d(yz) bands. The unique role of excess oxygen in metallization methods of Ca2RuO4 is highlighted by the substantial differences observed compared to other ruthenates.
