Efficient carrier transfer route via the bridge of C60 particle to TiO2 nanoball based coverage layer enables stable and efficient cadmium free GeSe photocathode for solar hydrogen evolution

Kang Wang et al.

Summary: Introducing a C-60 particle intermediate helped build a bridge between Pt catalysts and TiO2 balls on the GeSe micro air brick-based photocathode, accelerating electron transfer, avoiding self-reduction, and decreasing the accumulation of photoexcited carriers at interfaces, leading to significantly enhanced long-term stability. The GeSe-BiVO4 tandem cell showed a benchmark solar to hydrogen conversion efficiency of 1.37% with appreciably long time stability over 12 hours, indicating the competitiveness of the GeSe-based photoelectrode for solar hydrogen evolution.

Insightful understanding of hot-carrier generation and transfer in plasmonic Au@CeO2 core-shell photocatalysts for light-driven hydrogen evolution improvement

Dung Van Dao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the application of plasmonic metal@semiconductor core-shell nanoparticles (CSNPs) in artificial photosynthesis, using Au@CeO2 CSNPs as an example. The results show that Au@CeO2 CSNPs exhibit superior photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance compared to pure CeO2, with the Au@CeO2-18 model producing an HER rate approximately 10 times higher than pure CeO2. Additionally, the Au@CeO2-18 photocatalyst demonstrates excellent long-term stability and the improvements are attributed to electronic interactions between Au and CeO2, as well as localized surface plasmon resonance excitation.
