Effects of the NaCl Concentration and Montmorillonite Content on Formation Kinetics of Methane Hydrate

Haopeng Zeng et al.

Summary: The presence of salts and sea mud affects the formation of natural gas hydrates (NGH). Low NaCl concentration and low montmorillonite content can reduce the induction time of hydrate formation, while high NaCl concentration and high montmorillonite content significantly increase the induction time. The increase in NaCl concentration enhances the inhibition of hydrate formation and reduces the final water conversion.

Experimental Study of the Heat-Transfer Performance of an Extra-Long Gravity-Assisted Heat Pipe Aiming at Geothermal Heat Exploitation

Jiwen Cen et al.

Summary: The study investigates the performance of using a high aspect-ratio heat pipe for geothermal exploitation, with results showing the optimal filling ratio to be 40% of the volume of the vaporizing section. However, compared to conventional short heat pipes, the extra-long heat pipe experiences significant thermal vibration, with oscillation frequency depending on heating power and working-fluid filling ratio. Additionally, increasing cooling-water flow rate leads to an increase in the heat-transfer rate of the heat pipe until it reaches a plateau.

Numerical simulation of gas recovery from natural gas hydrate using multi-branch wells: A three-dimensional model

Panpan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study innovatively proposes the use of radial jet drilling technology to stimulate oceanic hydrate reservoirs, and investigates the combined effects of radial wells and depressurization on gas production efficiency from gas hydrate-bearing sediments. Results show that radial wells can significantly enhance gas production rate but cannot extend the gas production life cycle. Additionally, the study characterizes the stimulation mechanisms of radial wells induced by depressurization.

A Review of the Resource and Test Production of Natural Gas Hydrates in China

Youhai Zhu et al.

Summary: China has been focusing on the research and development of natural gas hydrate resources, with multiple hydrate accumulations discovered in regions such as the South China Sea, East China Sea, and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The estimated total reserve of natural gas hydrates in China is 131.1 trillion cubic meters. Since 2011, China has conducted five successful field tests of gas hydrates, with commercial production expected to begin in the 2030s.

Numerical study on flow and thermal characteristics of a micro-channel separated heat pipe under various surface wettability

Chang Yue et al.

Summary: The paper investigates the influences of surface wettability on the thermal and flow characteristics of refrigerant in the evaporator of a micro-channel separate heat pipe. It is found that hydrophilic surface enhances heat transfer rate while hydrophobic surface accelerates bubble nucleation, with heat transfer rate, fluid velocity, and initial nucleate spot decreasing as contact angle increases.

Prospect of marine natural gas hydrate stimulation theory and technology system

Wu Nengyou et al.

Summary: The key to realizing the commercial production of natural gas hydrate (NGH) is to significantly increase the NGH productivity, whether by enlarging the drainage area, improving dissociation efficiency, or enhancing seepage conditions. The use of complex-structure wells, multiple-well patterns, novel production methods, and reservoir stimulation technologies can greatly increase NGH productivity. However, there are technical bottlenecks in fundamental research on NGH production that need to be addressed, such as sample preparation, simulated reservoir monitoring, and mechanical coupling technologies. The combined application of complex-structure wells, well-pattern production models, novel production methods, and reservoir stimulation technologies are key to increasing NGH productivity in a significant scale.
