Thickness effect on structural properties of post annealed barium hexaferrite films deposited by ion beam sputtering

V. G. Kostishin et al.

Summary: Barium hexaferrite thin films were prepared using ion beam deposition on sapphire (102) single crystal substrates. The films exhibited a layered structure with different textures, and the thickness of BaFe12O19 was found to significantly affect its microstructure. Films obtained under certain conditions are potentially suitable for further growth of oriented hexaferrite with out-of-plane orientation of the c-axis.

Multifold enhancements in thermoelectric power factor in isovalent sulfur doped bismuth antimony telluride films

John Kennedy et al.

Summary: The thermoelectric power factor alpha 2 sigma in Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 films can be significantly increased by sulfur doping, leading to simultaneous increases in electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient. The increase in electron density induced by sulfur outweighs the decrease in charge carrier mobility caused by ion implantation. Therefore, incorporating controlled amounts of isovalent impurities can be attractive for enhancing the thermoelectric properties of pnictogen chalcogenides.

Summary: In this study, Ba0.5Sr0.5(CoCr)(x)Fe(12-2x)O19 hexaferrite was prepared using a two route ceramic technique, and the influence of Co2+-Cr3+ content on its structural and absorption properties was investigated. The results showed that the absorption peaks shifted to lower frequencies with increasing thickness, and compositions doped with Co2+ and Cr3+ exhibited improved absorption and bandwidth performance.

Summary: By using Mossbauer spectroscopy, magnetometry and X-ray diffraction techniques, the study revealed that BaYxFe12 - O-x(19) hexaferrite is less magnetically hard than BaFe12 - xAlxO19, with low isomorphic capacitance, leading to phase separation.

Textured Barium Hexaferrite Films on Silicon Substrates with Aluminum Oxide and Titanium Oxide Barrier Layers

V. G. Kostishin et al.

Summary: By studying X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy, it was found that hexaferrite phase with the (00l) preferred orientation was formed only when there was contact between BaFe12O19 and Al2O3, and the microstructure showed rounded grains in these samples. Additionally, partial oxidation of titanium during synthesis is believed to induce mechanical stress and the formation of macroscopic defects in the structure, while complete pre-oxidation of the titanium film led to a textured BaFe12O19 structure without defects.

Microstructure of BaFe12O19 Nanofilms Produced on Silicon Substrates with Various Amorphous Sublayers

V. G. Kostishin et al.

Summary: BaFe12O19 nanofilms with uniaxial texture were synthesized using ion-beam deposition and subsequent annealing. The films grown on Si3N4 sublayers exhibited high strain, leading to the destruction of the ferrite coating after crystallization annealing. The annealed samples contained additional phases and no signs of the (00l) hexaferrite texture were found.

Effects of Crystal Structure, Morphology and Ion Diffusion During Annealing on Magnetic Properties of Hexagonal Barium Ferrite Films

Ke Zhou et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of crystal structures, morphology, and ion diffusion on the magnetic properties of hexagonal barium ferrite films during annealing. It was found that the crystallographic characteristics and morphology of the films can be controlled by annealing temperature, with high crystallinity and morphology observed at temperatures >= 1000 degrees C. However, ion diffusion at 1200 degrees C led to the formation of the BaFe12-xAlxO19 phase and influenced the magnetic parameters.
