Cerebral blood flow differences between high- vs low-frequency VNS therapy in the epileptic baboon

C. Akos Szabo et al.

Summary: This study compares the effects of high-frequency and low-frequency vagal nerve stimulation therapies on cerebral blood flow in an animal model of genetic generalized epilepsy. The results show that high-frequency vagal nerve stimulation therapy can effectively suppress epileptic discharges and alter the cerebral blood flow in specific brain regions. These findings are of great significance for understanding the effectiveness and mechanisms of epilepsy treatments.

Whole Genome Sequence Data From Captive Baboons Implicate RBFOX1 in Epileptic Seizure Risk

Mark Z. Kos et al.

Summary: This study investigates the genetic determinants of epilepsy in a captive baboon pedigree and evaluates the suitability of this non-human primate model for understanding the genetic basis of human epilepsy. The research highlights the potential role of RBFOX1 in baboon epilepsy and suggests a shared genetic etiology between baboon and human forms of generalized genetic epilepsy. The study also indicates an association between protein-damaging variants across the genome and the extracellular matrix structure containing collagen with epilepsy risk.
