A Simplified Stress Analysis of Functionally Graded Beams and Influence of Material Function on Deflection

Fadi Althoey et al.

Summary: This study provides a simplified analytical solution for functionally graded beam stress analysis and optimized material gradation, observing that normal and shear stress distributions are independent of elastic moduli values but rather depend on material function and beam thickness position. The results demonstrate that functionally graded materials can serve as an alternative material solution in structural applications when properly designed and optimized.

Effect of hybridization of straight and hooked steel fibers and curing methods on the key mechanical properties of UHPC

Mohammed A. Al-Osta et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of hybridization of straight and hooked steel fibers and curing methods on the mechanical properties of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). The results showed that a higher amount of hooked fibers significantly improved the modulus of elasticity, flexural tensile strength, and flexural toughness of UHPC. UHPC cured using steam exhibited better performance compared to water curing in all aspects.

Synergistic effects of fly ash and hooked steel fibers on strength and durability properties of high strength recycled aggregate concrete

Babar Ali et al.

Summary: By incorporating steel fiber and fly ash in recycled concrete, the mechanical performance can be significantly improved. The synergistic effect of 15% fly ash and 1% steel fiber showed the best results in enhancing the flexural, splitting-tensile, and compressive strength of the concrete. Additionally, both fly ash and steel fiber were effective in improving the water resistance, chloride-ion penetration resistance, and acid attack resistance of the concrete.
