This study investigates the CFST column to H-shaped steel beam joint with outer annular stiffener through experiments, and finds that smaller column width-thickness ratio can improve the elastic stiffness and ultimate bearing capacity of the specimens.
This paper investigates an experimental study on CFST (concrete-filled steel tubular) column to Hshaped steel beam joints with outer annular stiffener. Five joint specimens (three T-shaped joints and two cruciform joints) were carried out under cyclic loading tests. The main experimental parameters included column width-thickness ratio (D/t = 30 or 38), and axial load ratio (n = 0.4 or 0.6). The strength, stiffness, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity were compared and analyzed based on the experimental results. The results showed that small column widththickness ratio could effectively improve the elastic stiffness and ultimate bearing capacity of tested specimens. Two failure modes, column local buckling of T-shaped joint and beam weld cracking of cruciform joint, were observed during the test.
