Investigations of indoor air quality for office buildings in different climate zones of China by subjective survey and field measurement

Zhu Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the indoor air environment of office buildings in different climate zones of China and its impact on staff perceptions and health symptoms. The results showed that pollutant concentrations are highly correlated between indoor and outdoor environments, and vary throughout the day. Action should be taken to improve indoor air quality, with ventilation being the most desirable strategy. The study also highlighted the need for cancer risk assessments and the use of outdoor air with purifiers/filters to reduce indoor pollutant concentrations.

Green glass space based design for the driven of sustainable cities: A case study

Chang Xi et al.

Summary: In regions with hot summers and cold winters, there is a high demand for thermal comfort. However, active solutions used to improve comfort level may increase energy consumption, hindering sustainable development. The proposed passive solution of green glass space can achieve a favorable balance between comfort and energy efficiency. Through a case study, the impacts of design parameters on thermal comfort and energy efficiency are investigated, providing important design strategies for the sustainable development of green buildings and cities.

How window ventilation behaviour affects the heat resilience in multi-residential buildings

Christoph Schunemann et al.

Summary: Residents' individual window ventilation behavior significantly affects the overheating risk in dwellings, with fully opening windows and room doors reducing the risk, while tilted windows are inadequate. Grunderzeit buildings are more affected by ventilation profiles compared to large panel construction buildings, which exhibit higher heat resilience. Meteorological conditions, such as tropical nights, can also significantly impact the efficacy of passive cooling through window ventilation.
