Direct oral anticoagulants in patients with severe inherited thrombophilia: a single-center cohort study

Joanna Zuk et al.

Summary: The study showed that full-dose dabigatran or apixaban are effective and safe treatment options for patients with severe inherited thrombophilia and venous thromboembolism. Rivaroxaban was associated with an increased risk of recurrent VTE or bleeding compared to apixaban or dabigatran.

Portal vein thrombosis and food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis in a premature newborn with hypereosinophilia: a case report

Cheong-Jun Moon et al.

Summary: Peripheral blood eosinophilia is commonly seen in various medical conditions related to allergic, infectious, and inflammatory processes. In neonates, especially preterm infants, eosinophilia may increase the risk of thrombotic events, including rare complications like portal vein thrombosis. In cases of prolonged eosinophilia in premature neonates, consideration should be given to the potential occurrence of conditions like food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis and evaluation for neonatal thrombosis.

Venous thrombosis and predictors of relapse in eosinophil-related diseases

Valeriane Reau et al.

Summary: The study reported clinical features and treatment outcomes of patients with unexplained VT and eosinophilia, identifying persistent eosinophilia as a predictor of shorter time to VT relapse. Long-term normalization of eosinophil count could prevent VT recurrence in some patients.

Neutrophil and Eosinophil Extracellular Traps in Hodgkin Lymphoma

Ivo M. B. Francischetti et al.

Summary: Classic Hodgkin lymphoma, nodular sclerosis subtype, is characterized by the presence of extracellular traps (ETs) released by neutrophils and/or eosinophils, promoting inflammation, thrombosis, and tumor growth. The study found that ETs were predominantly detected in nodular sclerosis cHL, with a correlation to fibrosis and tissue factor expression. This is the first description of neutrophil extracellular traps in cHL.

Eosinophil extracellular traps in a patient with chronic eosinophilic pneumonia

Masahide Takeda et al.

Summary: This case study describes a 43-year-old woman with chronic eosinophilic pneumonia, where bronchoalveolar lavage fluid showed eosinophils releasing extracellular traps. Treatment with prednisolone led to improvement in lung infiltrates and eventual discharge. Further analysis confirmed the presence of extracellular traps in patient with chronic eosinophilic pneumonia, suggesting a potential role in influencing secretion viscosity in eosinophilic inflammatory diseases.

A case of hypereosinophilic syndrome with STAT5b N642H mutation

Feihong Ding et al.

Summary: Hypereosinophilia is defined as persistent eosinophilia (>1.5 x 10(9)/L) and can be diagnosed as Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) when associated with sustained eosinophilia and end-organ damage. Different subtypes of HES exist based on the underlying molecular mechanisms, and diagnosis of the subtype can be challenging without clear lymphoid/myeloid neoplasms or secondary causes. Long-term outpatient follow-up with complete blood count and repeated bone marrow biopsy may be needed to monitor disease activity. Recent discovery of somatic STAT5b N642H mutation in a HES patient suggests possible underlying myeloid neoplasm.
