NOX emission analysis according to after-treatment devices (SCR, LNT plus SCR, SDPF), and control strategies in Euro-6 light-duty diesel vehicles

Hyung Jun Kim et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the distribution of NOX emissions in vehicles meeting Korea's Euro-6 emission standards under cold and hot start conditions, as well as the relationship between ECU/DCU signals and exhaust emissions. It was found that over 76% of the vehicle models used the LNT + SCR after-treatment system, with ECU and DCU signals controlling emissions-related parameters.

Effects of high-pressure and donor-cylinder exhaust gas recirculation on fuel economy and emissions of marine diesel engines

Xuyang Tang et al.

Summary: The research suggests that different EGR patterns have a significant impact on balancing NOx and BSFC. HP-EGR is more sensitive to engine loads, while DC-EGR can achieve higher EGR rates and lower NOx at low and medium loads.

Experimental study of effects of exhaust gas recirculation and combustion mode on combustion, emission, and performance of DME-methanol-fueled turbocharged common-rail engine

Chunhua Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) on a six-cylinder turbocharged common-rail dimethyl ether (DME) engine with methanol blends, finding that NOx emissions decrease while CO and HC emissions increase with increasing EGR rate. The addition of methanol delays combustion and increases pressure rise rate. In comparison to the DICI mode, the P-PCCI mode shows higher peak in-cylinder pressure, lower maximum pressure rise rate, better suppressed NOx emissions, and higher CO and HC emissions.

Influence of Urea-SCR system parameters on NOx conversion rate and liquid film

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: Increasing ammonia/nitrogen oxides feed ratio can reduce nitrogen oxides emission; excessive urea-water solution supply leads to ammonia slip and liquid film increase; exhaust temperature affects nitrogen oxides conversion rate, while higher exhaust flow rate results in worse system performance.

Combined effects of excess air ratio and EGR rate on combustion and emissions behaviors of a GDI engine with CO2 as simulated EGR (CO2) at low load

Changming Gong et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that simulated EGR (CO2) has a weaker impact on combustion compared to actual EGR, and results in increased peak cylinder pressure, heat release rate, and cylinder temperature under the same EGR rate and excess air ratio conditions. Additionally, simulated EGR (CO2) can improve the COVimep of the engine, while having minimal effect on CO and HC emissions in lean-burn and stoichiometric conditions. Overall, NOX and soot emissions decrease significantly with EGR rate, but soot emissions from simulated EGR (CO2) are higher than actual EGR under any excess air ratios.

Real-world NOx emissions from heavy-duty diesel, natural gas, and diesel hybrid electric vehicles of different vocations on California roadways

Cavan McCaffery et al.

Summary: This study assessed real-world NOx emissions from 50 heavy-duty vehicles of different types, showing that diesel vehicles generally exceed certification standards while CNG vehicles have lower brake-specific NOx emissions. NOx emissions were found to be strongly dependent on SCR temperature, with lower temperatures resulting in increased emissions.
