Identification of a novel major QTL from Chinese wheat cultivar Ji5265 for Fusarium head blight resistance in greenhouse

Hanwen Li et al.

Summary: Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance is an important trait in wheat breeding, and a major QTL, QFhb-2DL, has been identified in the Chinese wheat cultivar Ji5265. The development of diagnostic markers KASP10238 and KASP12056 allows for marker-assisted selection in wheat breeding programs to improve FHB resistance.

Genomic prediction of Fusarium head blight resistance in early stages using advanced breeding lines in hard winter wheat

Jinfeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study used univariate and multivariate genomic prediction models to evaluate the prediction accuracy of FHB resistance traits in wheat. The results showed that the prediction accuracy can be improved by using a large training population and a multi-trait model. In addition, genomic prediction can facilitate the rejection of highly susceptible materials at an early stage in a breeding program.

A Lipid Transfer Protein has Antifungal and Antioxidant Activity and Suppresses Fusarium Head Blight Disease and DON Accumulation in Transgenic Wheat

John E. McLaughlin et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that overexpression of the AtLTP4.4 gene in transgenic wheat significantly reduced the growth of Fusarium graminearum and decreased fungal lesion size. It also showed that the accumulation of DON was reduced in transgenic wheat plants overexpressing AtLTP4.4, possibly through the inhibition of oxidative stress.

Transgene pyramiding in wheat: Combination of deoxynivalenol detoxification with inhibition of cell wall degrading enzymes to contrast Fusarium Head Blight and Crown Rot

Giulia Mandala et al.

Summary: Combining different resistance mechanisms in wheat plants can improve resistance to Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) and Crown Rot (FCR), with the inhibition of cell wall degrading enzymes (CWDEs) and UGT-based DON detoxification playing key roles. Reinforcement of pectin does not enhance resistance against FCR.

Marcia Helena Mota de Arruda et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the genetic diversity and structure of F. graminearum, F. meridionale, and F. austroamericanum populations in wheat fields in Parana State, Brazil, with results showing the highest genetic variability in the F. graminearum population. Overall analysis indicated high variability and genetic structure of the studied populations.
