Diverse Anatexis in the Main Central Thrust Zone, Eastern Nepal: Implications for Melt Evolution and Exhumation Process of the Himalaya

Shuaiqi Liu et al.

Summary: The Main Central Thrust zone (MCTZ), located between the Greater and Lesser Himalayan sequences, has experienced multiple episodes of partial melting. The study examines the nature of this melting process and its response to Himalayan orogenic processes using a variety of geochemical techniques. The findings suggest that hydrous metasediments from the Lesser Himalayan sequence were accreted to the base of the Greater Himalayan sequence, resulting in hydration melting of both sequences. The timing of activity of the MCT is constrained to 25-13 Ma, and the formation of a large-scale melt channel during the Oligocene to middle Miocene is proposed.

Boron isotopes of tourmalines from the central Himalaya: Implications for fluid activity and anatexis in the Himalayan orogen

Shuaiqi Liu et al.

Summary: The relationship between fluid activity and anatexis in the Himalaya is complex and has not been clearly understood. In this study, we investigated the B isotope compositions of tourmaline and muscovite samples from the LHS and GHS to trace the source of fluids during partial melting. Our results suggest that LHS fluids have lower B isotopes compared to metamorphic fluids in the GHS. Various mechanisms, such as source compositions, devolatilization, tourmaline fractionation, and fluid metasomatism, contribute to the variations in B isotopes.

First evidence of eclogites overprinted by ultrahigh temperature metamorphism in Everest East, Himalaya: Implications for collisional tectonics on early Earth

Jia-Min Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the burial and exhumation processes of granulitized eclogites in the Everest east region, central Himalaya. The results show that the eclogites underwent eclogitization and ultra-high temperature conditions induced by over-thickened felsic crust and lithosphere thinning. This case study provides insights into the UHT conditions during continental collision and suggests a global pattern of Himalaya-type continental subduction/collision during the Paleoproterozoic.

Cryptic excess argon in metamorphic biotite: Anomalously old 40Ar/39Ar plateau dates tested with Rb/Sr thermochronology and Ar diffusion modelling

E. Scibiorski et al.

Summary: In 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, cryptic excess 40Ar phenomenon was identified with anomalously old apparent dates that are difficult to determine by traditional methods. Rb/Sr geochronology proved to be an effective method for testing the geological significance of 40Ar/39Ar plateau dates.
