The Neoproterozoic ophiolitic ultramafic rocks in Eastern Desert of Egypt: implications for petrogenesis and metasomatic processes

Abdel-Aal M. Abdel-Karim et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the mineral chemistry and geochemistry of ophiolitic peridotites from three locations in the Eastern Desert of Egypt. The rocks show variable degrees of alteration and represent mantle residues that experienced high degrees of partial melting. Differentiation between rock types is based on Cr numbers of Cr-spinels, with implications for the partial melting processes.

Radioactive mineralizations on granitic rocks and silica veins on shear zone of El-Missikat area, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt

Hamdy A. Awad et al.

Summary: The shear zone of the El-Missikat area is considered one of the most important occurrences of uranium mineralization in the Central Eastern Desert of Egypt, characterized by tabular elongated zone of crushing and brecciation with silicification. The concentrations of natural radionuclides suggest the presence of U mineralization in granitic rocks and silica veins, mainly represented by radioactive minerals such as uranophane, kasolite, and U-bearing zircon.
