Gut Microbiota and Complications of Type-2 Diabetes

Camelia Oana Iatcu et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the development of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes. Modulating the gut microbiota through probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and fecal microbial transplantation shows potential in treating diabetes and its complications. The severity of gut microbiota dysbiosis is associated with disease severity, and restoration of the gut microbiota through probiotic administration can improve symptoms and disease progression.

Early detection of diabetic nephropathy in patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A review of the literature

Sopida Thipsawat

Summary: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a heterogeneous pathology characterized by hyperglycemia, with the global population of diabetes mellitus predicted to reach about 439 million by 2030. Diabetic nephropathy is the most common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus, with microalbuminuria being an early marker for screening. Early detection through significant kidney damage and disease biomarkers can lead to earlier diagnosis, treatment, and retardation of the progression of diabetic nephropathy.

Gut microbiome, endocrine control of gut barrier function and metabolic diseases

Marion Regnier et al.

Summary: Overweight and obesity are linked to cardiometabolic risk factors, potentially influenced by gut microbiota composition and activity. However, causality between the two is not fully proven. Low-grade inflammation and metabolic disorders are associated with metabolic endotoxaemia and increased gut permeability, but the mechanisms affecting gut barrier regulation and cardiometabolic disorders remain unclear.

Gut-Microbial Metabolites, Probiotics and Their Roles in Type 2 Diabetes

Lixiang Zhai et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion leading to high blood sugar levels. Disturbances in gut microbiota play a significant role in the development of insulin resistance in T2D. Research on gut microbial metabolites and probiotics-based therapeutic strategies show promise in alleviating insulin resistance in T2D by modulating gut microbiota.

Identification of novel antioxidant peptides from snakehead (Channa argus) soup generated during gastrointestinal digestion and insights into the anti-oxidation mechanisms

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: Research on antioxidant peptides derived from snakehead soup after simulated gastrointestinal digestion revealed that peptides with molecular weight less than 3 kDa exhibited the highest antioxidant capacity. Four novel antioxidant peptides were identified, with PGMLGGSPPGLLGGSPP and SDGSNIHFPN showing strong DPPH radical scavenging and Fe2+ chelating abilities. Molecular docking results suggested potential interaction with Keap1, indicating involvement in the cellular anti-oxidation pathway.

The Effect of Formula-based Nutritional Treatment on Colitis in a Murine Model

Sooyoung Jang et al.

Summary: In a murine model of colitis, exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) was found to improve colitis symptoms by promoting mucin recycling, as indicated by increased abundances of mucin-degrading bacteria and mucin production after EEN administration.
