Effects of sea urchin and herbivorous gastropod removal, coupled with transplantation, on seaweed forest restoration

Seokwoo Hong et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that removing urchins from barren grounds can lead to rapid restoration of seaweed forest in subtidal habitats. Additional removal of herbivorous gastropods did not quantitatively impact algal recovery, but with the successful establishment of E. bicyclis, the community assemblages became more distinct in the subsequent years.

Biodiversity loss leads to reductions in community-wide trophic complexity

Scott S. Gabara et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of biodiversity loss on trophic complexity in food webs using ecosystems in the Aleutian Archipelago. The findings indicate that biodiversity loss leads to reductions in trophic complexity, similar to naturally occurring communities with low local resource biodiversity.
