Abundance, distribution and diet of the common dolphin, Delphinus delphis, in the northern Aegean Sea (Greece)

Cristina Milani et al.

Summary: The study investigated the abundance, distribution, and diet of the short-beaked common dolphin in the North Aegean Sea, proposing the area as a marine protected area for cetaceans. The encounter rate for this species in the study area was estimated to be 0.24 groups/100 km, and correlations were found with depth, temperature, and salinity. Stomach-content analyses showed this species to be a top predator in the region.
