Major challenges in cryopreservation of sea urchin eggs

S. Campos et al.

Summary: Although there have been successful studies on sperm cryopreservation, the cryopreservation of eggs from marine organisms, including the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus, remains a challenge with no sustainable results obtained. This poses limitations for the conservation and research of marine organisms.

Comparative metabolomic analysis of the body wall from four varieties of the sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus

Lili Xing et al.

Summary: Sea cucumber, an economically important species, was studied for metabolite profiling among four varieties. Variations in body color and papillae count were found to influence the value of sea cucumbers. The study revealed differences in metabolite profiles among the varieties, providing insights into sea cucumber breeding.

Chilled storage of Asian seabass, Lates calcarifer Bloch semen: Effects of ions, extenders and storage periods on sperm quality and fertilization ability

Verapong Vuthiphandchai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different ionic and non-ionic solutions and extenders on the sperm quality and fertilization ability of Asian seabass. It was found that the motility of Asian seabass sperm is dependent on the osmolality of activation media, with Ringer's solution being the most optimal extender for chilled storage. Diluted semen stored in Ringer's solution for 2 days exhibited acceptable fertilization and hatching rates. This report provides new insights into the effects of ionic and non-ionic solutions on Asian seabass sperm motility.
