Effects of dietary lipid sources on the growth, gonad development, nutritional and organoleptic quality, transcription of fatty acid synthesis related genes and antioxidant capacity during cold storage in adult sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus intermedius)

Yanchang Ning et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of different lipid sources and kelp on the growth, gonad development, and antioxidant capacity of adult sea urchins. Colza oil and fish oil performed well in terms of growth and gonad development, while fish oil was found to be the most easily oxidized during cold storage.

Dietary effects on the reproductive performance of the sea urchin Tripneustes gratilla l: Implications for broodstock conditioning

M. Brink-Hull et al.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of different feeding regimes on the reproductive performance of Tripneustes gratilla. The results showed that conditioning broodstock on natural feeds and a mixed diet can improve gonad and egg quality indices.

Effects of lipid sources on the growth performance, gonad development, fatty acid profile and transcription of related genes in juvenile sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus intermedius)

Min Li et al.

Summary: This experiment compared the effects of three lipid sources on the growth and gonad development in juvenile sea urchins. The results showed that linseed oil and fish oil were ideal lipid sources, increasing deposition of EPA and ARA in the sea urchins, while soybean oil was not suitable as a sole lipid source. Elevated transcription of fatty acid synthesis-related genes may be responsible for the increased deposition of EPA and ARA in linseed oil and soybean oil, respectively.

Effects of dietary n-3 LC-PUFA on the growth performance, gonad development, fatty acid profile, transcription of related genes and intestinal microflora in adult sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus intermedius)

Deliang Lv et al.

Summary: The study found that adult sea urchins have a low requirement for n-3 LC-PUFA and that intestinal microflora are affected by dietary categories and n-3 LC-PUFA in formulated feeds.

Comparative lipidomics profiling of the sea urchin, Strongylocentrotus intermedius

Heng Wang et al.

Summary: The study conducted untargeted lipidomics analysis on the sea urchin gonad and identified 11 PUFAs in Strongylocentrotus intermedius, which accounted for the majority of the total fatty acid content. The OPLS-DA model was used to distinguish significant differences in PUFA abundances between male and female sea urchins. Phosphatidylcholine was found to be more predominant in females, while triglycerides were more predominant in males, serving as potential markers for distinguishing high levels of PUFAs.

Effects of different dietary lipid resources on sperm quality and reproductive success in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

Mustafa Yildiz et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of dietary fish oil replacement with linseed or sesame oil on sperm quality and reproductive performance in rainbow trout. The results showed that sperm quality was influenced by diet and rainbow trout were able to synthesize essential fatty acids in vivo to meet their reproductive needs.
