Swine wastewater treatment by Fenton?s process and integrated methodologies involving coagulation and bio fi ltration

Eva Domingues et al.

Summary: The study evaluated Fenton's process as an alternative treatment for swine effluent, integrating coagulation and biofiltration to improve depuration. Results showed that the integration of Fenton's process with biofiltration removed 91% of sCOD, while coagulation after Fenton's process achieved an 86% degradation rate of sCOD. The integration of treatment processes reduced luminescence inhibition to about 30%.

Advanced pre-treatment of stripped biogas slurry by polyaluminum chloride coagulation and biochar adsorption coupled with ceramic membrane filtration

Ahmed Alengebawy et al.

Summary: The study focused on different pretreatments of biogas slurry, including using poly-aluminum chloride and rice husk biochar, followed by filtration through a ceramic membrane to remove indicators such as COD, ammonia nitrogen, turbidity, and total phosphorus. The membrane flux was improved by increasing the operating pressure from 0.1 to 0.3 MPa, showing that the combined pre-treatments of PAC and biochar effectively removed various indicators from biogas slurry while maintaining membrane flux.

Numerical evaluation on ventilation rates of a novel multi-floor pig building using computational fluid dynamics

Xiaoshuai Wang et al.

Summary: A study using Computational Fluid Dynamics technique explored the ventilation performance of multi-floor animal buildings, revealing limited differences in airflow patterns among floors and varying ventilation rates with floor number. It is recommended to focus on the ventilation rate of the first floor during design, and increasing yard width can mitigate negative effects of floor number on ventilation rates.

Optimization of Fenton process for removing TOC and color from swine wastewater using response surface method (RSM)

Umair Ali Toor et al.

Summary: The Fenton oxidation process was successfully applied to biologically treated swine wastewater (BSWW) for the removal of TOC and color constituents. By optimizing operational variables using the response surface method (RSM), it was found that FeSO4 is more important for TOC removal, while H2O2 plays a significant role in color removal. The optimal conditions derived through process optimization led to 76.7% removal of TOC and 98% removal of color from the swine wastewater.

Resource recovery from liquid digestate of swine wastewater by an ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor (UF-MBR) and reverse osmosis (RO) process

Bufan Qi et al.

Summary: The study utilized UF-MBR and RO systems to treat liquid digestate produced from swine wastewater, with the combined action of UF and RO removing suspended solids and humic acid, improving water quality to meet discharge and reuse requirements. Higher concentrations of nutrients and humic acid were found in the RO concentrate, indicating that the UF-MBR and RO system is not conducive to the recovery of N and P but can be used for the recovery of K, Ca, Mg, and humic acid.

Effect of operating conditions on the performance of multichannel ceramic ultrafiltration membranes for cattle wastewater treatment

Qiuhui Ren et al.

Summary: The study found that ceramic membranes performed well in treating cattle wastewater under specific operating conditions, achieving a concentration factor of five and maintaining stable performance through five independent cycles. This suggests that ceramic membranes could be an efficient treatment option for livestock and poultry breeding wastewater.
