Investigation and properties of a novel composite bio-PCM to reduce summer energy consumptions in buildings of hot and dry climates

Lisa Boussaba et al.

Summary: The study developed a novel composite bio-PCM for enhancing thermal comfort in building indoor environments. Testing showed that the composite is thermally and chemically stable, with slightly reduced compressive strength but still suitable for non-structural building applications. The research indicates that this homemade PCM panel could be a potential candidate for use in buildings located in hot and dry climates.

Experimental study on the thermal performance of composite phase change ventilated roof

Mingdong Hou et al.

Summary: With the improvement of people's living standards, building energy consumption is increasing year by year. Phase-change energy storage technology can greatly reduce the energy consumption of building heating and air conditioning systems. Different summer experiments show that ventilated roofs with multiple phase change materials can effectively reduce indoor temperature fluctuations and energy consumption.

A novel approach to investigate the thermal comfort of the lightweight relocatable building integrated with PCM in different climates of Kazakhstan during summertime

Indira Adilkhanova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of PCM and natural ventilation in enhancing thermal comfort in lightweight relocatable buildings in Kazakhstan during summer. The study introduced a new indicator, TDC, to select the optimal PCM and evaluated the performance in terms of both TDC values and storage efficiency. The research concluded that PCM 26 + NV was the best performing combination in all cities, and highlighted the efficiency of RT 26 + NV in improving thermal comfort conditions. Further analysis under climate change scenarios identified RT 28 + NV and RT 26 + NV as the optimum combinations for future use.

Multi-factor analysis on thermal comfort and energy saving potential for PCM-integrated buildings in summer

Y. Qu et al.

Summary: The multi-factor orthogonal simulation analysis explored the impact of four key parameters of PCM-integrated building envelopes on energy consumption and indoor thermal comfort in Chinese climate. The influence of these parameters on energy saving and indoor temperature fluctuation was discussed, with the optimal solution being the use of BioPCMTM23 (PCM2) with 7 cm thickness on both wall and roof. Integrating PCM into the envelope can effectively reduce indoor temperature fluctuations and achieve significant energy savings by selecting PCMs based on local climatic conditions.

Experimental investigation on the effects of phase change material and different ventilation modes on the thermal storage, space heating and energy consumption characteristics of ventilated mortar blocks

Jiwei Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that integrating micro encapsulated PCM in radiant heating floors significantly increases thermal storage capacity, and ventilation can enhance heat release flexibility. Experimental results showed that a mass ratio of 8.7% PCM in mortar blocks increased heating time by 78.5% and thermal storage capacity by 80.3% compared to pure mortar blocks. Ventilation further increased energy consumption by more than 22.7%, and adjusting ventilation mode allowed for flexible space heating and cooling rates, essential for the operation of the new heating system.
