In Vivo Antibacterial Efficacy of Antimicrobial Peptides Modified Metallic Implants?Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Amrit Kaur Sandhu et al.

Summary: Biomaterial-associated infection can have serious consequences, but antimicrobial peptide-modified implants show potential in preventing microbial adhesion and growth. Research using in vivo infection models confirms the antibacterial effects of antimicrobial peptides and suggests that further investigation is needed for their application methods and effectiveness against different bacterial strains.

Peptide-Membrane Interactions Monitored by Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging: A Study Case of Transportan 10

Sara Anselmo et al.

Summary: The interest in analyzing peptide-membrane interactions lies in their relevance to both fundamental and applied sciences, due to the complex and dynamic nature of these interactions. This study used a combination of spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy methods to characterize the interactions of the amphiphilic peptide transportan 10 with model membranes, highlighting molecular details of membrane alterations through phasor plot analysis of fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy measurements. This approach allows real-time tracking of dynamic events with high spatial resolution to distinguish whether the peptide is adsorbed to or inserted in the membrane without sample manipulation.

Cholesterol as a modulator of cannabinoid receptor CB2 signaling

Alexei Yeliseev et al.

Summary: Cholesterol increases activation levels of CB2 receptor and alters its interaction with ligands. Specific ligands may have different effects on CB2 activation in different membranes, offering implications for screening GPCR modulators. Cholesterol exerts an allosteric effect on the intracellular regions of the receptor, impacting G-protein recruitment.

Effects of Lipidation on a Proline-Rich Antibacterial Peptide

Federica Armas et al.

Summary: The study tested two different lipidated forms of Bac7(1-16) aimed at extending its activity against bacterial species lacking SbmA. Both lipidated forms showed activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria at low micromolar MIC values. These results suggest that C-terminal lipidation alters the function and mode of action of a short proline-rich peptide, providing insights into the design of broad-spectrum antibacterial agents.
