Risk prediction models for discrete ordinal outcomes: Calibration and the impact of the proportional odds assumption

Michael Edlinger et al.

Summary: Calibration of risk prediction models is crucial, especially for ordinal outcomes, but research in this area is limited. This study compared calibration measures for risk models predicting discrete ordinal outcomes, and found that multinomial logistic regression generally provides more accurate risk estimates. The study also showed that the proportional odds assumption impacts calibration and overfitting.

Th17 CD4+T-Cell as a Preferential Target for HIV Reservoirs

Constance Renault et al.

Summary: Th17 cells play a crucial role in defending against pathogens at mucosal barriers, but they are also vulnerable to HIV-1 infection and depletion from gut mucosal sites. The imbalance caused by the loss of Th17 cells impairs cytokine production and leads to damage in the gut mucosal barrier, promoting HIV-1 disease progression. The expression of specific receptors by Th17 cells contributes to their susceptibility to HIV infection. Moreover, Th17 cells serve as long-lived viral reservoirs in HIV patients receiving antiretroviral therapy.

Parthenolide Suppresses T Helper 17 and Alleviates Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis

Zhihui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the important immunosuppressive effect of parthenolide (PTL) on autoimmune inflammation. PTL can alleviate clinical symptoms by inhibiting inflammatory cell infiltration, reducing inflammation, and demyelination. It also regulates the immune response by inhibiting the reactivation of specific T cells and the differentiation of CD4(+) T cells into pathogenic Th17 cells.

Relationship between Th17 immune response and cancer

Hanna Santos Marques et al.

Summary: Cancer is a leading cause of mortality globally, with predictions indicating an increase in cancer-related deaths in the coming years. Studies have highlighted the impact of Th17 immune response in cancer pathogenesis, with a profile that influences various types of cancer through multiple mechanisms. Interleukin-17 plays a crucial role among Th17-related cytokines, modulating pathways in the tumor microenvironment and affecting cancer development. Understanding the relationship between Th17 immune response and cancer, as well as the unique characteristics of different types of tumors, is essential for identifying new therapeutic targets.

The Role of Th17 Response in COVID-19

Diana Martonik et al.

Summary: COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus, is an acute infectious disease of the respiratory system transmitted through droplets and contaminated objects. The immune system response is crucial in defending against viral infection but an overreaction may harm the body. Th17 cells play a significant role in the pathogenesis of COVID-19.
