Antiproliferative and Cytotoxic Activities of Fluorescein-A Diagnostic Angiography Dye

Maria Srankova et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential biological impacts of fluorescein photochemistry. The results show that photoactivated fluorescein significantly reduces cell viability and affects cellular energy metabolism and the cell cycle. These findings suggest that the photochemical reaction of fluorescein could have important biological consequences and may account for adverse reactions observed in patients treated with fluorescein. Furthermore, both singlet oxygen and carbon monoxide have potential therapeutic effects in cancer treatment.

Piezo1 mediates endothelial atherogenic inflammatory responses via regulation of YAP/TAZ activation

Ying Yang et al.

Summary: The expression of Piezo1 is significantly increased in atherosclerotic mice and in vitro experiments induced by ox-LDL, and Piezo1 can mediate endothelial atherogenic inflammatory responses through the regulation of YAP/TAZ activation and nuclear localization. Piezo1 may be a potential therapeutic target for atherosclerotic diseases in the future.

PIEZO1 transduces mechanical itch in mice

Rose Z. Hill et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the transduction of mechanical itch is mainly mediated by the ion channel PIEZO1. Loss of PIEZO1 function greatly reduces mechanically evoked scratching behaviors and acute/chronic itch sensitization. In addition, mice expressing a gain-of-function Piezo1 allele exhibit enhanced mechanical itch behaviors.

Myopia-related stepwise and quadrant retinal microvascular alteration and its correlation with axial length

Mingming Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigated retinal vascular alterations in patients with different degrees of myopia, finding a stepwise and quadrant alteration of retinal microvascular density from mild to extreme myopia, with axial length playing a stronger role in influencing microvascular density than spherical equivalent.

SWEPT-SOURCE OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY IMAGING OF THE CHORIOCAPILLARIS

Gerardo Ledesma-Gil et al.

Summary: The study analyzed swept-source optical coherence angiography images at different depths above and below the default location of the Zeiss PLEX Elite 9000 in normal eyes of subjects in their 20s and 30s. The results showed that the compensation technique altered the appearance of flow deficits, and the projection removal function modified grayscale values and diminished projection from overlaying retinal vessels. The study suggests that projection from the choriocapillaris is important in image formation, although layers of vessels in the inner choroid may also contribute to the images.

Characterization of Retinal Microvascular and Choroidal Structural Changes in Parkinson Disease

Cason B. Robbins et al.

Summary: This study suggests that noninvasive retinal imaging parameters may serve as potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of Parkinson disease. Individuals with PD showed decreased retinal vessel and perfusion densities, increased total choroidal area, and decreased choroidal vascularity index compared to healthy control participants. Further research is needed to explore the clinical utility of these retinal biomarkers in PD.

High myopia and macular vascular density: an optical coherence tomography angiography study

Yang Jiang et al.

Summary: The study compared macular vascular density between patients with high-myopia and non-high myopia using OCTA. Results showed that vascular densities in the superficial and deep retinal layers of the macula were significantly higher in non-high myopia patients compared to high-myopia patients, while no differences were observed in the choriocapillaris layer.

Artificial intelligence in OCT angiography

Tristan T. Hormel et al.

Summary: Optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCTA) is a non-invasive imaging technique that provides three-dimensional vascular images, while artificial intelligence (AI) based image analysis can accurately quantify vascular features and pathology in various disease contexts of the eye. This combination shows promise in accurate diagnosis in different disease and eye regions.

Tiantian Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that both superficial and deep retinal vascular densities were significantly decreased in individuals with high myopia, while the peripapillary flow density inside the disc increased. Axial length was negatively correlated with retinal vascular density, while the spherical equivalent of the refractive error was negatively correlated with central retinal vascular density.
