Epidemiology of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Katherine A. McGlynn et al.

Summary: Liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is a major global health concern. While HBV and HCV remain important risk factors for HCC, efforts in vaccination and treatment are showing promise. However, the increasing prevalence of metabolic risk factors like obesity and diabetes, as well as other factors like excessive alcohol consumption, present ongoing challenges in the prevention of liver cancer.

Sorafenib use in hepatitis B virus- or hepatitis C virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma: A propensity score matching study

Yu-Chi Lee et al.

Summary: In patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma receiving sorafenib treatment, those with HCV-related HCC showed superior overall survival compared to HBV-related HCC patients without nucleoside analogs therapy, but was not significantly different from HBV-related HCC patients with nucleoside analogs therapy. Antiviral therapy may enhance survival benefits in advanced HBV-related HCC patients undergoing sorafenib treatment, resulting in comparable overall survival to HCV-related HCC patients in Taiwan.

Conversion therapy and maintenance therapy for primary hepatocellular carcinoma

Hongyuan Zhou et al.

Summary: Conversion therapy aims to transform unresectable advanced liver cancer or potentially resectable liver cancer into resectable cancer by utilizing various modalities such as local treatment, systemic treatment, and therapeutic alliances. Maintenance treatment plans are determined based on the outcome of conversion therapy to achieve the best survival benefit for patients.
