Nanoscale magnetic bubbles in Nd2Fe14B at room temperature

Yangkun He et al.

Summary: The domain structure of thin Nd2Fe14B lamellae is studied in this paper. Magnetic bubbles with a minimum diameter of 74 nm were observed at room temperature, approaching the range of magnetic skyrmions. Both the stripe domain width and the bubble size are dependent on the thickness. Moreover, a kind of bubble combining bubbles with opposite helicity was observed below the spin-reorientation transition temperature. The study reveals Nd2Fe14B to be a good candidate for high-density magnetic bubble-based memory.

Charge-Density-Wave Order and Multiple Magnetic Transitions in Divalent Europium Compound EuAl4

Koji Kaneko et al.

Summary: The multiple transition phenomena in EuAl4 were studied, revealing that the structural modulation below T-CDW can be mainly attributed to the displacement of Al ions within the tetragonal ab-plane. The complex magnetic transitions in EuAl4 are in stark contrast to the simple collinear magnetic structure in isovalent EuGa4, possibly due to different electronic structures and CDW transitions between the two compounds.

Charge density waves in multiple-Q spin states

Satoru Hayami et al.

Summary: The study investigates the coupling between spin and charge degrees of freedom in electrons and its impact on solids, focusing on the influence of charge density waves in distinguishing spin textures with similar spin structure factors. The research demonstrates the predictive power of a formula derived for the relationship between charge and spin density waves, highlighting the potential for enhanced charge density waves under certain conditions.

Meron, skyrmion, and vortex crystals in centrosymmetric tetragonal magnets

Zhentao Wang et al.

Summary: Experimental confirmation of the transformation between meron and skyrmion topological spin textures has shown that these structures can be stabilized by simple physical ingredients. The challenge now lies in finding the right combinations of these ingredients to produce specific topological spin textures, such as merons, skyrmions, vortices, and monopoles. The study also revealed that the application of a magnetic field can lead to a rich variety of topological spin textures that survive in the long wavelength limit of the theory.

Magnetic Skyrmion Materials

Yoshinori Tokura et al.

Summary: The concept of Skyrmion, originally proposed in particle physics, has found a fertile field for its applicability in magnetic skyrmions realized in helimagnetic materials. These magnetic topological defects show promising properties for future application in spintronics, with extraordinary metastability and low electric current excitation. The review also covers the emergence of other magnetic topological defects and their interplay with skyrmions.

Square skyrmion crystal in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets

Satoru Hayami et al.

Summary: The research investigates the square-type skyrmion crystal in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets, finding that it is stabilized by interactions between positive biquadratic, bond-dependent anisotropic, and easy-axis anisotropic interactions. This is different from triangular skyrmion crystals, which are stabilized by only one of the three interactions, indicating that the square skyrmion crystal is characteristic of itinerant magnets with magnetic anisotropy. The study also reveals a variety of noncollinear and noncoplanar spin textures depending on model parameters and applied magnetic fields.

Anomalous Hall resistivity and possible topological Hall effect in the EuAl4 antiferromagnet

Summary: The study reports an anomalous Hall resistivity in single crystals of EuAl4, possibly due to the manifestation of the topological Hall effect, which normally occurs in noncentrosymmetric materials.
