Green synthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles using Salvia hispanica L. (chia) seeds extract and studies of their photocatalytic activity and cytotoxicity effects

Summary: In this study, NiO-NPs were produced using Chia seeds extract as the capping agent, with physical and morphological features examined through various techniques. The biosynthesized NiO-NPs were found to have a spherical shape and contained oxygen and nickel elements. The XRD pattern showed corresponding peaks to the crystal structure of NiO-NPs, while VSM analysis detected superparamagnetic behavior and reported non-concentration-dependent cytotoxicity effects. The high photocatalytic capacity and low cytotoxic effects of NiO-NPs suggest their applicability for disease control and toxin removal.

Synthesis and comparative study on the structural and optical properties of ZnO doped with Ni and Ag nanopowders fabricated by sol gel technique

Summary: The study showed that doping with Ni and Ag can influence the crystalline structure and optical properties of ZnO, with an increase in Ag content leading to an increase in the average grain size of Ag-ZnO. The band gaps of Ni-ZnO and Ag-ZnO were lower than undoped ZnO, with Ag-ZnO having lower band gaps than Ni-ZnO. The optical properties of ZnO were enhanced by Ni (mol.%) in the UV region and by Ag (3 and 5 mol.%) in the visible region.

Green synthesis of bimetallic ZnO-CuO nanoparticles and their cytotoxicity properties

Summary: This study reported a simple and green method to prepare bimetallic nanoparticles using Sambucus nigra L. extract, involving zinc oxide and copper oxide. The nanoparticles were found to contain polygonal ZnO NPs with hexagonal phase and spherical CuO NPs with monoclinic phase. The bimetallic ZnO/CuO NPs showed high toxicity on melanoma cancer cells while their toxicity on lung cancer cells was low.
