Habanero pepper (Capsicum chinense) adaptation to water-deficit stress in a protected agricultural system

Alejandra Nieto-Garibay et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the physiological and gene expression responses of C. chinense plants to water stress, with a focus on the recovery process. The findings showed that water deficit impaired plant growth, but did not affect physiological parameters. Genes related to heat-shock proteins, heat-shock factors, and transcription factors were found to be involved in the response to water deficit stress in C. chinense plants.

Chickpea Roots Undergoing Colonisation by Phytophthora medicaginis Exhibit Opposing Jasmonic Acid and Salicylic Acid Accumulation and Signalling Profiles to Leaf Hemibiotrophic Models

Donovin W. Coles et al.

Summary: Hemibiotrophic pathogens cause significant losses in agriculture. This study focuses on the response of chickpea roots to the root hemibiotroph Phytophthora medicaginis. The findings suggest that chickpea roots show similarities in response to disease progression as previously documented in leaf plant-pathogen interactions, but differ in phytohormone responses.

Thirty years of resistance: Zig-zag through the plant immune system

Bruno Pok Man Ngou et al.

Summary: Understanding the plant immune system is crucial for protecting crops from diseases. Plants have a two-tiered innate immune system to resist pathogens. Over the last 30 years, significant progress has been made in identifying immune receptors and understanding the signaling pathways and interactions between different components of the immune system.

Jasmonic acid priming of potato uses hypersensitive response-dependent defense and delays necrotrophic phase change against Phytophthora infestans

Diego F. Arevalo-Marin et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that jasmonic acid as a priming agent can effectively enhance the defense response of potato against late blight, reducing the number and area of lesions. At the physiological level, the tested concentration of jasmonic acid does not have adverse effects on plants.
