Cannabinoids Accumulation in Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) Plants under LED Light Spectra and Their Discrete Role as a Stress Marker

Md Jahirul Islam et al.

Summary: The accumulation of cannabinoids in hemp plants is greatly influenced by the quality of light in a controlled growing system. Different light combinations affect the synthesis of CBD and THCA, with THCA playing a significant role as a stress marker. This study suggests that THC and CBD do not show significant stress responses to light conditions compared to THCA.

Cannabinoids in Medicine: Cancer, Immunity, and Microbial Diseases

Pawel Sledzinski et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in the medical applications of Cannabis plants, particularly in the unique properties of phytocannabinoids. Studies have shown that cannabinoids can interact with cannabinoid receptors in animals, and potentially have therapeutic effects in various diseases. More research is needed to fully understand the cellular and molecular response to cannabinoids, which will provide insight into their mechanism, potency, and safety profile for potential use as therapeutic agents.

Conversion Characteristics of Some Major Cannabinoids from Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) Raw Materials by New Rapid Simultaneous Analysis Method

Byeong Ryeol Ryu et al.

Summary: This study developed a high-performance liquid chromatography method for fast analysis of main cannabinoids in hemp inflorescence and successfully performed decarboxylation of the raw material. Using a solvent gradient system with water and methanol containing trifluoroacetic acid at a wavelength of 220 nm in UV spectrum yielded optimal results.

Comparative Growth, Photosynthetic Pigments, and Osmolytes Analysis of Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) Seedlings under an Aeroponics System with Different LED Light Sources

Md Jahirul Islam et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of hemp seedlings under different light treatments and found significant impacts on leaf and root growth. Certain light treatments promoted bushy growth and osmolyte accumulation, which could enhance branching and inflorescence, ultimately leading to higher cannabinoids accumulation.

The biosynthesis of the cannabinoids

M. Nazir Tahir et al.

Summary: Cannabis has played a crucial role in Eurasian civilization for thousands of years, but limited research has been done due to a century of prohibition. With increasing legalization, scientists are now focusing on studying the pharmacopeia of cannabinoids and understanding their biosynthesis to engineer strains with specific cannabinoid profiles. Although there are still gaps in our knowledge about the biosynthesis of cannabinoids, particularly for minor components, this review highlights the tools and approaches that will be used to improve understanding and access to these potentially medically relevant materials.
